Advice and Services for Game Developers

Australia has so many aspiring game developers who are talented, creative and determined. My goal is to help these awesome teams bring their visions life.

Development Services

Overwhelmingly, my favourite projects to work on began with someone sharing their vision. Something awesome that needs to be brought to life; they just need help with the technical parts.I'm comfortable using whatever technologies are required for the team and project at hand. While this has often entailed Unity for most of the recent projects I have worked on, I'm more than happy to work within Unreal, Godot or even a custom-built engine!I like to develop with a focus on exposing control to game designers, making frameworks that make their lives easier. My background in high performance and GPGPU computing allows me to squeeze out that last bit of performance if and when optimisation becomes the main issue at hand.

About Me

I'm Jackson Michael, a programmer and passionate game developer based in Adelaide, South Australia. My main focus is my role as Lead Programmer for Paper Cactus Games, although I also help with programming work for a variety of Adelaide studios. Alongside this, I'm currently the Treasurer for the South Australian Games Association. You'll often find me discussing all things game development with the amazing folk at GamePlus Adelaide. In addition to making games myself, I've also come to another important realisation: I can't help but want to help bring other peoples great game ideas to life.

Background

I've been in love with making video games ever since I first laid hands on Game Maker back in high school. In my time away from the games industry I had the chance to work on High Performance GPGPU computing for the Center of Distributed and Intelligent Technologies at the University of Adelaide. Eventually, I became the team lead of a small, tight-knit group of talented software developers. I quickly learnt that my greatest sense of achievement came from enabling my team members to unleash the potential I could see in them.In the end, I could only resist the pull of game development for so long. For the last 5 years I've been working on Fox and Shadow, as well as getting to know and love the local game development community.I'm always keen to hear from other developers and folks in the industry, so please feel free to get in touch!

Business and Grant Advice

Making games can be hard; getting a game studio up and running can be even harder. The great news is that there's no need to go it alone.
I've now had years of experience experience with production planning, budgeting, grant writing, pitching to publishers, running Kickstarters and releasing games. I know first hand that even a few hours of advice can save someone weeks, months or even years of headaches and stress.
If you want to learn more about the opportunities that might be available, or are looking for assistance with putting together a grant application or a pitch deck, please feel free to get in touch!
